Waking up Late and the World Series...

So I felt incredibly ill this morning walking out of the house. I usually get this way when I don't have more than a few minutes between waking up and being at a train station. If there is less than 10 or so minutes between actually getting out of my bed and running out the door, the stress on my body from stumbling into the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash up, getting dressed, downing some vitamins on an empty stomach and the swift temperature change I get a bit queasy.

That being said, I knew it would eventually go away so here I am at work about to briefly talk about how the Phillies winning the World Series means nothing to me. It's funny how in the years the Cubs have recently gotten to the playoffs and been brushed aside, the Series means less to me than when they miss the playoffs. In 2001 I watched every game of the series between the Yankees and Diamondbacks. Same in '02 for the Angels vs. Giants (a throwback for me because of Bronco Little League Baseball - I was on the losing Giants in 1993). I watched only game 6 of the '03 series between the EVIL FUCKING MARLINS and the inept Yankees. I was glued to the TV for the '04 series because Boston was what the Cubs were trying so hard to be when they beat up the favored Cardinals. In '05 the Sox were the first thing Chicago could be proud of since the '98 Bulls (unless you count the countless Wolves and Fire successes). I enjoyed watching the world series in '06 because it was between the two teams that were not supposed to be there. The Cardinals were barely over .500 and the Tigers were... well... the Tigers. Now comes '07 and '08 and I barely watched either. My sympathy for the Bostonians was GONE as I now HATED them with all their fucking success and terrible attitudes towards it so when they won in '07 I could care less. Then this one. The PHILLIES? My god. The only team to be more synonymous with losing than the Cubs... wins...

Anyway. Congrats to Philly AND Tampa. It may not seem like it now Tampa, but what you did was freakin awesome. I was pulling for you even though I really would rather have the NL win one... Once in a while.

Halloween...

This is (as this blog has explained countless times) my favorite time of the year. The rain lately has prematurely taken many of the leaves from the trees before the color could come out fully, let alone be appreciated properly, but still the crisp autumn air fills me with... if not 'life' than at the very least a desire for 'life.'

I was so disappointed in my Halloween costume last year that I believe I have been procrastinating this year's costume. Going as the Mononoke/Ashitaka combo last year was fucking brilliant but next to Vicky's bitchin' Mononoke costume, my Ashitaka looked rushed and half-assed. Not to mention our Halloween party was quite lame. We toyed with some awesome ideas this year. The best of which were things like Wall-E and Eve, Indiana Jones and Short Round (yeah, I didn't know about that one, either), a zombie couple, and other Miyazaki character duos but nothing ever materialized fully. Probably because of the whole saving funds thing for our move to L.A. next spring. My bet is that we will go as Chihiro and No-Face from 'Spirited Away' simply because I already have basically the whole costume for No-Face and Chihiro's costume is quite simple as well. Cost effective and probably the most recognizable of all the Miyazaki combos.

Anyway, I just want to enjoy this season more than I did last year. However, my mom's health problems of late as well as my many new financial burdens and managerial decisions at work have caused me to not realize how fast the days and weeks are passing by. I'm not down or depressed about it, but I simply feel that I will wake up one morning and it will be December 12th and I'll start worrying about Christmas shopping...

Paid Gig and Falling Asleep at THE MOST Inappropriate Times...

Inappropriate times, you ask? How about while driving home from Wisconsin? I KNEW I was about to fall asleep so I made sure I stayed awake long enough to get me to the next straightaway. Why? 'Cuz that's the best and safest time to close your eyes while driving.

I am idiot.

Next thing I realized, I was having a conversation with Brent Spiner about what it's like to play Data. After a couple questions and answers, I noticed that I, for some reason, really shouldn't have been there. I opened my eyes slowly to see cars around me and a road quickly passing under my feet.

I was still driving.

Sufficed to say, that little incident kept me awake and alert the rest of the trip. The trip, by the way, was to Burlington, WI for a shoot I was A.C.ing for. Easiest $100 ever. All inside a barn with plenty of available light and shot on 2 HVXs. All in all, once I was able to watch the Bears game on tape, it was a great day.

Now I am at work and kinda just biding my time until 5:00 when I leave. Ugh.

Work work workitty work...

At work now and feeling the blogger's remorse of a person who misses his blog but cannot legitimately work up the energy to write in it. A co-worker and I chatted about blogging for a minute and now I have somehow make sure no one reads the posts where I rant about work-related stuff.

All in all, I'm at work capturing footage with my headphones on and brooding about the past in a fun way.

Trip to Champaign and Paid Gig...

So Vicky, Heather, Ashley and I went down to visit my brother this weekend stopping in Naperville at North Central College to see Chris on the way. It was a fun weekend of college-town experiences. We saw my broski's friends' band at a local drinking establishment on saturday night. A few too many long island ice teas for Vicky and shots of whiskey later, we went back to Matt's sweet office - apartment. Vicky was pretty hung over the whole way home on sunday which sucked for her but it all still made for a good weekend.

Later that night after getting home and watching The Haunting, I got offered a paid AC gig in Wisconsin for a graduate Directing III film. The DP is not a columbia person so they were in need of a Columbia-trained camera person to check out the camera and AC for $100 a day. Sweet deal. I may be able to drive there myself too because they would compensate for travel. We'll see. They need 2 days of help so that's experience on a Directing III set as well as an easy $200 in my pocket... And by 'my pocket' I mean 'Sallie Mae's pockets.'
