Whole lotta new months...
About three months have passed since I last wrote in this thing. The reason? Not for lack of desire. No, not this time. I honestly forgot my login after coming back from L.A. It was not until recently that I realized what it was. Never mind that now.
Lots of stuff...
Vicky and I are good. The stressful semester took it's toll on both of us (mostly me though) and we hit a little rough patch but everything got smoothed out for the most part. I still work at the PII lab and am currently getting the heads-up that I will be taking over as manager this summer some time. Eh. Just another job I've gotten way too comfortable at and stayed with longer than I probably should have.
My dream shoot (the one I really worked hard on of the 5 special studies films) went well. I was able to get it all done and editing ahead of schedule. It. Looked. BEAUTIFUL. Mad props to Robert (Gaffer), Ben (Key grip/Dolly grip), Nicole (AC), Vicky (Director) and Brian (Grip). Thanks to Kamelya and Ashley (Still photographer) for being there and helping out. SooJin, Matt and Richie were all wonderful talents and worked with a level of professionalism and patience I hope I can get again on shoots in the future. I'm hoping to have all my work telecined by this fall after taking the Telecine class and maybe post them up on YouTube.
Speaking of which, I have a few shoots coming up soon. Two PII shoots (16m Bolex, post-sync sound) and finishing up the doc from L.A. at the Rubik's Cube championship here in Chicago. I saw the first cut of the doc (the one Kamelya needed to turn in at the end of the semester for her Doc 2 class) and it was awesome. Despite the fact it was all video, it was still really great.
Vicky and I are getting things together to possibly shoot a music video on our own for a French-American downtempo artist. He wants it shot on film and I think it could work out very splendidly. The artist was not really into the music videos we've done in HD because he thought they were a little too common, but he literally jumped out of his seat when he saw some of the films Vicky and I had done for school. He liked the look of 16mm film, the way I shot everything and Vicky's stories. I'm excited about it very much because I can finally do some work that resembles my inspirations and uses my creativity rather than sticking to a regimen of commonly used tricks.
Blaszczyk's wedding was this past weekend and it was absolutely gorgeous. It was so much fun to actually be able to help celebrate a wedding of one of my friends. Being a groomsman for the first time was exciting, too. Matt and Sara were so adorable up on the altar both in the rehearsal and the ceremony itself... Enough of that. The reception was a lot of fucking fun. Plenty of liquor, good food, good people, dancing with a DJ that played a somewhat decent selection (trust me, this is a step up and a compliment). It was good to finally talk to Sara too, considering she was marrying my best friend after only meeting me only once. ^_^
Vicky did not come out unscathed. She had a little much to drink and it cost her. Not before having a great time at the reception, but the night for her was a living hell. However, she is Vicky Chan and was resilient. She was much better by the time she got home around 7 or so on sunday night. We had to miss the brunch on sunday, but we got to celebrate enough that weekend. It was so much fun and the fact that the Lincoln Hotel double charged didn't even bother me that much (it was taken care of later).
Well, that sums most of it up. Matt is coming in this weekend and he is sort of in a rough place right now so I'm looking forward to helping him get his mind off it. Maybe my buddy's air guitar Chicago championship defense @ the Metro tomorrow night will help cheer him up. If not, there is always Oberweis, video games and booze.
