Camera Equipment...

Okay. I've decided I'm okay with my footage coming back to me from my HVX200. I'm okay with sticking with this purchase. What I think I'm finally ready to do is make the plunge into getting a decent fluid head tripod and either an M2 RedRock or Letus DOF lens adapter. Along with these two things I'm really fiending Zacuto's 'DOF Indie Baseplate Kit.'

All of these things together, plus a Nikkon or Zeiss prime lens or two, will end up costing me upwards of $7,500... Boo. Hoo.

If done, this would bring my HVX package up to about $15,000 which is still very moderate considering that some professional HD cameras alone can cost almost $25,000. It would also make me very in demand as a freelance DP because of how much like 35mm the images would look. I've already had paid gigs based on the fact that I had an HVX alone and with this package, my images would be RIDICULOUS.

Oh, money. The roadblock for everything. Going away present, anyone? Please...

Lake Lawn Lodge!

This weekend a bunch of friends along with Vicky and I are going up to Lake Lawn Lodge in WI for a quiet, relaxing weekend... Filled with liquor, stripping and rowdy fun times where we bother the shit out of the neighbors.

I haven't been here since March of 1999 in 8th grade with some Edison folk. Back then, we used to go once or twice a year with a large group and just Rollerblade through the halls, swim, eat buffets and try to get 'Striptease' on the video rental vending machine but end up with 'Matilda.' Those were actually really great times. Listening to Tori Amos' 'Boys for Pele' on my new DiscMan and playing Super Nintendo in our rooms.

Well now we'll have booze, no chaperons and... adultness.

Speaking of adultness, I was reading Wil Wheaton's blog today and he was talking about how his kids will never know what a floppy disc is or what went into bringing records to a friend's house. Granted, on the music front, I came a bit after vinyls, but I still remember what it was like to make mix TAPES. I remember when I first discovered Mp3s and the joy it brought me to be able to bring 750 Mbs of music in a portable way. Now there are flash drives and iPods that not only hold gigabytes of songs, but books, photos, and videos. Incredible. The great point Wheaton brought up in the end was the pleasure it brings him to not only be a part of this technologically convenient age but to have been in on that great and rapid shift from one age to the next.

He runs a great blog and it's fun to see that this guy I grew up watching on TV is just a big geek at heart.

Just Ate Oatmeal @ Work Before a Lecture...

So it's raining again in Chicago. We all got a glimpse of beautiful Chicago spring weather yesterday to only have it peed on by the clouds. Still, that smell in the air just before a rain does remind me of the beginnings of spring despite the fact that it is still over 2 months away. However, the darkness this morning on the way to work just dampened (oh dear god, seriously, no pun intended) my spirits.

Last night, Vick and I had a delicious dinner cooked up by us while listening to some light classical music On Demand... It was so delightfully 'suburban-domestic'... Except without the resentment and eventual murder. Asparagus and pea poultry sauce over rotini topped with red bell peppers and onions. So good. So, so good...

Anyway. Back at work. Just heard a new Kid Static and Yea Big! song that will, apparently, be used in a Rockstar Games game called Midnight Club L.A. Way to go, Moses.

Speaking of L.A.... I am excited about this trip out there but not encouraged by the lack of responses to job openings. People have my resume and even those that responded quite quickly initially, I have not heard from in over a month. I suppose it is still too far away to have a job waiting for me when I get there, especially with the economy the way it is, but I am worried none the less. If I can get the job situation taken care of, I will really have no worries heading out there. Y'know... Other than trying to keep the job.

Speaking of jobs, my latest contract to DP a dramatic short has gone through a few major changes this weekend. Apparently, we are no longer shooting on film, rather we are shooting on HD which I have plenty of experience with but would really prefer this film on... well, film!

Just roll with the punches, I suppose...
